Gum reshaping, also known as crown lengthening treatment, is a procedure designed to remove excess gum tissue surrounding the teeth, revealing more of the tooth structure above the gumline. This treatment is often recommended for individuals with a “gummy” smile or to facilitate better access for addressing issues such as tooth decay, fractures, or gum infections.
During the procedure, the gums are gently repositioned away from the teeth and underlying jawbone. If necessary, the bone may be contoured to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional outcome. Subsequently, the gums are reattached at a lower position on the teeth. This process results in an enhanced display of tooth structure above the gumline, creating the appearance of longer teeth and reducing the prominence of the gums.
